Uncover the rising force of Scotland – Hannah Laing

Fresh wind from the north is heading to Roxy – Scottish DJ and producer Hannah Laing will be introducing herself to the Czech audience for the first time, and we believe she could become your new favorite! When she plays, you can really feel like you're standing once again in the middle of an euphoric 90s warehouse rave – only with today’s BPM and a blend of all Hard Dance influences in one set. Her musical story really excites us, and now it's time to bring it a little closer to you – this is Hannah Laing, performing at our Roxy on June 6th!

“The best thing you can give your child is roots and wings.”

Born in 1994 in the port town of Dundee, Hannah Laing had the best foundations from an early age. Her parents played old dance tapes and dance music recordings at home – Sasha, John Digweed, Graeme Park are just a few examples Hannah remembers. At the age of 18, after attending her first events, she wished for nothing more than to stand behind the DJ booth herself. First turntables, a mixer, and after another half year of training at home came her first gig in a small bar. From playing for friends and family to the biggest stages – after years of love for music and pursuing her dream.

“What happens in Ibiza doesn't stay in Ibiza – it stays within you.”

At 19, she flies off for work and experiences during the summer to Ibiza, not even imagining how that summer on the island would change her life. In the bar The Highlander – where she often went for Wi-Fi – she asked about a spot in the event lineup. Unfortunately, the whole summer was already booked. But as it often goes, one day Hannah’s phone rang with a last-minute request to fill in behind the decks…

That summer in Ibiza, she ends up playing at three different residencies and lives her dream. And if we jump to the current 2025 season – this year you can hear Hannah every Monday at her residency in Hi Ibiza club – where she becomes the first woman in history to play at this venue, from June through September.

It's murder on the dancefloor but you better not kill the groove…”

In the meantime, Hannah also takes production courses and continues to educate herself. She still worked as a dental assistant for a long time before finally deciding to devote herself to music full-time. She followed up her debut Coco from 2014 a year later with the singles Space and My House, complemented by remixes from other producers. But the biggest breakthrough came in 2021, when her remix of the anthem Murder On The Dancefloor went viral online and was immediately signed by the label Spinnin Deep Records. This opened doors for her, which she entered with energy that matched her sound – and she quickly became a rising favorite in the UK.

“This was something I always only dreamed about…”

Her popularity also spread to her homeland Scotland, and her return ended up rewriting history in her hometown of Dundee. “10 years ago I was playing in small pubs, and now I’m about to perform at one of the biggest venues in Dundee,” she told local newspapers before her big day. That day was a double performance at Caird Hall, both of which she sold out. As a DJ and representative of electronic dance music, this was the first time anything like it had happened in the city.

Welcome to the Doof!

At the time of her Caird Hall performance, Laing had catchy singles in her discography like Good Love (with remixes from Tiesto and Reinier Zonneveld) and Party All The Time alongside the great EP Get Busy on the label Trick from popular producer Patrick Topping. Still an active producer, she introduced her own label DOOF with her first singles, leading to her debut EP Into The Doof. In Australia, this slang word refers to a party – and if you say this word three times fast, it’ll become clear what this sound might remind you of musically…

In September last year, Hannah Laing announced the biggest project of her career so far – and once again it’s taking place in her hometown of Dundee. It’s the festival Doof In The Park with a capacity of 10,000 – and tickets are now nearly impossible to get. Since trance played a big role in Laing’s life and musical formation, it’s no surprise that the headliner was announced as Dutch legend Armin Van Buuren. But there are also names like Øtta and Charlie Sparks (whom we hosted last year at Roxy), as well as Lisa Lashes, Will Atkinson, Fish56Octagon and many more.

So if you don’t happen to be planning a summer in Scotland, we’ll be happy to see you at Roxy, where this talented producer is heading for her Czech debut. She’ll be supported by other Prague ladies – Demonika and Zazitech. An all-ladies lineup and a superb energetic night with Hannah Laing, live at Roxy on June 6th. Be there!
